Alumni News – Spring 2017
Bryan D. Strickland ’62 reports, “After I graduated from the University in 1962, I entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant, attending pilot training in Class 63H at Laredo AFB, Texas. After getting my wings, I was an instructor in pilot training in the T-33 and T-37 aircraft at Craig AFB in Selma, Ala. In 1967, I went through training to be an aircraft commander in the F-4D aircraft and was assigned to Ubon Royal Thai Air Base in Ubon, Thailand, from 1966 to 1967. I flew 141 combat missions in the F-4D, 100 of which were over North Vietnam. We called those missions over North Vietnam ‘counters’ because they counted toward the 100 missions that qualified us for completion of our combat tours. I completed 30 years in the Air Force, attaining the grade of colonel and retiring in 1992.” Bryan and his wife, Charlotte, live in Montgomery, Ala. E-mail: [email protected]
